Dear Parents/Guardians of ABRHS Juniors,
For the past 23 years, undergraduate parents and other members of the community have created Project Graduation, an all-night, alcohol and drug-free party exclusively for graduating seniors. Traditionally, this event is planned and carried out by parents/ guardians of ABRHS juniors with participation and support from the Acton-Boxborough community.
Our goal is to provide an evening of fun and safety on graduation night. The event is always a huge success; almost 90% of the senior class attends. The night features live entertainment, a DJ, hypnotist, arcade games, psychics, crafts and much more! In addition, food is served and prizes and scholarships are awarded. Common areas of the school are decorated with a secret theme transformed into such venues as a space odyssey, movie sets, or "survivor" locations, and the new graduations can escape with their friends to a fantasy land. Our decorations were honored with an award in 2007. Senior parents can get good night's sleep after a long day of ceremony and celebration, knowing that their young adults are safely enjoying themselves for a mere $15.00 admission.
Next year, your sons and daughters will be treated to the same send-off. At this time, we would like to make a request for a donation to Project Graduation 2012. Each year, the committee successfully raises over $18,000 to fund the event. We are asking the families of juniors to contribute now for their graduation party next year so that we will have funds in hand for early expenses, since the committee begins to work on the next Project Graduation before the current one is over. For example, we book and pay deposits on entertainment a year in advance to ensure the best. And, we want to avoid asking you for a donation during senior year when all of you are likely to be bombarded with graduation and college expenses.
Please be aware that senior parents/guardians are not allowed to attend the event. This year, however, as parents of juniors you can join many others and experience the magic of Project Graduation by spending a few hours at the party. There is always room for another pair of hands, so if you haven't yet volunteered, please consider this the opportunity to do so. Indicate your interest on the form below and we will contact you.
If time is an issue, you can still help us create The Junior Trunk, a trunk/box containing dorm room essentials raffled off during Project Graduation. Please consider contributing to the trunk - new towels, sheets, bathroom carriers, gift cards, monetary donations, etc. In the past, we have been able to fill two or three trunks with dorm goodies. If you are interested in contributing, contact abprojgrad12@gmail.com.
Also, please support our fundraiser at Roche Brothers between 4-8 p.m. on May TBD 2012. They will donate 5% of receipts collected for purchases and gift cards between 4-7 pm. Please consider buying a gift card (which can be redeemed at anytime) for future shopping - this is where we benefit the most. They can be ordered in advance through us (and delivered to you) or purchased at the store during the collection period. For more information, see the May PTSO newsletter or send an email to: abprojgrad12@gmail.com.
Project Graduation is one of many traditions that make this community special. Please help us continue it with your donation and your help as a volunteer. Thank you for your support. Please feel free to call with any questions.
Sincerely,
2012 Co-chairs, Sandy Lamb and Kim Musto
